How can you help me if I am sick and do not have insurance or Medi-Cal?
We have the right programs for you, as well as our discount and payment plans for those who qualify. Please visit our Payment Options page for more information.
What do I need to bring to apply for these programs?
For most programs and the discount all you need to bring is a Picture ID, proof of income issued within the last 45 days and proof of address issued within the last 60 days. For the discount you only bring proof of income, Picture ID, and proof of address. Please visit our Payment Options page for more information or contact us at (323)254-5221 for assistance.
What if I get GR (General Relief)?
Your GR documents would be your proof of income.
What if I'm not working?
You can write a letter explaining that you are not currently working and stating what kind of financial support, if any, you are receiving. This letter will serve in place of your proof of income.
I don't have the full documents to apply for the discount, how many days do I have to bring in information, and can I see the doctor today?
Yes, you can see the doctor the same day! You have 30 days to bring the required documents from the date of service.
I'm in the process of fixing my Medi-Cal, if I'm seen today will I have to pay?
Yes, you can see the doctor the same day but you will be processed as a Self-Pay and asked to pay a nominal charge of $20. Once your Medi-Cal is approved you must bring your Med-Cal insurance card so we can check eligibility coverage. When, Medi-Cal coverage is verified you will receive your nominal fee refund via mail.
How soon can I schedule an appointment?
Appointments are usually available within a one week time frame. Some appointments can be scheduled the same day and dental appointments may be available within two weeks.
What is the latest time I can schedule an appointment
The latest available Medical appointment is at 4:15pm Monday to Friday at all Arroyo Vista locations and at 4:15pm on Saturdays at the Highland Park Health Center for Medical. Same day appointments may be available. Please visit our Locations page for more information and hours of operation.
Do you accept Walk-ins?
Yes, walk-ins are welcomed at all locations, but we strongly recommend making an appointment. Dental walk-ins are accepted at 8:30am and 1:30pm.
Do you have Pediatricians?
We have experienced, board certified Pediatricians on staff. We also have Family Medicine doctors, Nurse Practitioners and a Physician Assistant that can also take care of all patients, from newborns to our elderly.
Do you have Specialists?
Yes, we offer a variety of on-site specialty services, including OB/GYN, podiatry, dental, radiology, ultrasound, optometry and pharmacy. For more information, please visit Our Services pages.
Are your doctors bilingual?
Yes, and we make every effort to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of our patients. Some doctors are bilingual in English/Spanish and some in English/Asian languages. All nurses and other support staff are bilingual in English/Spanish.
How often can I schedule my Physical Exam?
We believe that every person should have a complete physical examination every year. Please visit the American Academy of Pediatrics website at: AAP Recommendations and the American Academy of Family Medicine website at: for preventive guidelines.
How much is a Physical Exam and what does it include?
Physical exams are covered by major health plans and other programs. Discounts are provided to the uninsured. See Payment Options for more information. We have seasonal discounts, for example we offer a Physical Exam for $50 which includes laboratories (Chem Panel 56 includes: urine test, cholesterol, liver test, diabetes complete blood count, sodium, kidney), TB skin test and anti-tetanus vaccine. Do you offer free physicals for children and teens?
Physicals are free of cost for most children and teens! We enroll children in Children’s Presumptive Eligibility (CPE) and Medi-Cal! Please visit our Payment Options page for more information or contact us at (323) 254-5221 for assistance.
Do you offer free pregnancy tests?
We have the Presumptive Eligibility program where you can get a pregnancy test for free! If your results are positive, we extend the program for one month until you apply for Medi-Cal with the Department of Public Social Services. We are also available to assist you with the Medi-Cal application process.
What is a normal blood pressure level?
The normal range is considered to be less than 120/80. Ranges can vary depending on age, physical activity and weight. What is a normal blood sugar level?

Do you accept Medi-Cal for Dental?

If I have Private Insurance but my deductible is too high, can I still see the Doctor even if I do not have the full amount to pay?

What is the minimum payment I have to give for my pending balance?
We will accept any amount a patient can give on a regular monthly basis.
Do you offer transportation assistance?
If transportation is an obstacle, taxi transportation services are offered to patients if deemed medically necessary for transportation to the hospital or other providers in the AVFHC service area.
We are a Community Health Center, we are not a free clinic, but our services are offered at low or no cost. We offer free screenings and health education, discounted prices and payment plans for those who qualify.
