How can you help me if I am sick and do not have insurance or Medi-Cal?

We have the right programs for you. We have the My Health LA, and other programs, as well as our discount and payment plans for those who qualify. Please visit our Payment Options page for more information.

What do I need to bring to apply for these programs?

For most programs and the discount all you need to bring is a Picture ID, proof of income issued within the last 45 days and proof of address issued within the last 60 days. For the discount you only bring proof of income, Picture ID, and proof of address. Please visit our Payment Options page for more information or contact us at (323)254-5221 for assistance.

What if I get GR (General Relief)?

Your GR documents would be your proof of income.

What if I'm not working?

You can write a letter explaining that you are not currently working and stating what kind of financial support, if any, you are receiving. This letter will serve in place of your proof of income. For the MHLA program, if someone is financially supporting you they will need to sign an In-Kind letter stating how.

I don't have the full documents to apply for the discount, how many days do I have to bring in information, and can I see the doctor today?

Yes, you can see the doctor the same day! You have 30 days to bring the required documents from the date of service.

I'm in the process of fixing my Medi-Cal, if I'm seen today will I have to pay?

Yes, you can see the doctor the same day but you will be processed as a Self-Pay and asked to pay a nominal fee of $20. Once your Medi-Cal is approved you must bring your Med-Cal insurance card so we can check eligibility coverage. When, Medi-Cal coverage is verified you will receive your nominal fee refund via mail.

When should I get tested for COVID-19?

You should get a swab or saliva test for COVID-19 (whether you are fully vaccinated or not) if: • You have symptoms of COVID-19 or • You are a close contact to someone with COVID-19.

What if I test positive for COVID-19?

If you test positive for COVID-19, you must isolate. Stay home and away from others for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started AND at least 1 day after your fever has gone without the use of medicine AND your symptoms have gotten better. If you don’t have symptoms, you must isolate for 10 days from the date your positive test was taken. For more details, visit ph.lacounty.gov/covidisolation. In addition, see Understanding Your Viral Test Result on ph.lacounty.gov/covidtests.

Why is it important to get vaccinated?

COVID-19 vaccination is important because it is the best way to prevent COVID-19. The vaccines are extremely good at preventing people from getting sick from COVID-19 and ending up in the hospital or dying. They also reduce the risk of becoming chronically ill from COVID-19 and from missing work and school.

How well do the vaccines work?

The vaccines work extremely well. Even with the Delta variant, all 3 vaccines greatly reduce the risk of getting sick from COVID-19 and are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

Will I have to pay to get a COVID-19 vaccine?

No. If you have insurance, your doctor or pharmacy may charge your insurance company a fee for giving the vaccine. People without health insurance can also get COVID-19 vaccines at no cost. There are no out of-pocket payments for anyone.

Will I be asked about my immigration status when I get a COVID-19 vaccine?

No. COVID-19 vaccine is being given at no cost regardless of immigration status. You will not be asked about your immigration status when you get a COVID vaccine. Your medical information is private and getting a COVID-19 vaccine does not affect your immigration status. You do not need a government-issued ID or a letter from your employer to get a vaccine.

How many doses of COVID-19 vaccine will I need?

• The J&J/Janssen vaccine is given as a single dose. • The Pfizer vaccine is given as 2 doses 21 days apart. • The Moderna vaccine is given as 2 doses given 28 days apart.

If you are late getting the second dose of a 2-dose series, you do not need to start over. It is important to get the same kind of vaccine for both doses.

If you have a moderately or severely weakened immune system (immunocompromised) and already got 2 doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, it is recommended that you get a 3rd dose of the same vaccine.

What are common side effects of the COVID-19 vaccines?

After getting a COVID-19 vaccine, you may have side effects like the ones you get after a flu or shingles vaccine. For two-dose vaccines, side effects are more common after the second dose. These side effects may limit your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away within a day or two. Not everyone gets side effects. They may include: • Fever, chills, and muscle aches • Headache • Feeling tired • Sore or red arm.

Side effects are normal and a sign that the vaccine is working. It shows that your body is learning to fight the virus and is building immunity. Not everyone gets side effects. It is important to get the second dose even if you get side effects after the first dose unless a vaccination provider or your doctor tells you not to.

Contact your doctor if you have: • Vaccine side effects that last more than 2 days • New symptoms that start more than 2 days after you get the vaccine • Cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell (as these are not vaccine side effects) • Symptoms that get worse or worry you.
